It is all natural, low fat and less than 45 calories per piece. In Cremona, Italy in 1441 at the wedding celebration of Francesco Sforza to Bianca Maria Visconti, the buffet featured a delicious sweet made of nutmeats, honey and egg whites. It was fashioned in the shape of the famous tower of Cremona known as Torrone - hence the name Torrone. Ferrara Torrone is prepared from the finest ingredients according to an original Old World recipe. We blend crunchy almonds, smooth golden honey, pure cane sugar, fluffy egg whites and other quality ingredients to create a light, smooth nougat. No artificial coloring or preservatives are ever added. Ferrara Torrone brings to your table a confection that is created with pride and in the best spirit of its tradition. Little Italy still serves delectable pastries with freshly ground Italian coffees - and its legacy of quality, freshness and customer service continues to flourish in the exceptional product of the Ferrara brand name. | | | Features: | |

Italian Tradition and Delicious Treat for AllFeb 18, 2010
By M. Hill For those who haven't experienced torrone almond honey nougat candy, you are in for a treat. This Italian specialty confection is authentic and a product of Italy. Although it looks like it will be hard and/or sticky, it is miraculously soft. Each piece is sealed in foil for freshness and carefully packaged in a small box like a gift. There are eighteen tiny boxes per 6.35 ounce package. When I was a child, after eating the candy, I would keep the little boxes and use them to store special treasures. I have added a photograph to show the individual packaging for each piece of candy.
Only 45 calories per piece and 3 grams of fat with only half a gram of saturated fat, as far as candy goes, this is surprisingly natural. The candy is loaded with toasted almonds and flavored with vanilla, orange or lemon. A distinctive very thin white wafer coats the front and back of the rectangle providing a satisfying lightly crisp texture. Torrone has a short ingredient list with toasted almonds as the first on the list and chemical additives thankfully absent, so there are no artificial colors or preservatives.
There is nothing else like this Italian confection. It is usually reserved for holidays, and I know in my house it wouldn't feel like Christmas or Easter without it, although it is certainly wonderful year round. Ferrara's torrone would make a lovely hostess gift or an unusual treat to tuck into a Christmas stocking.

very unsatisfying to the tasteNov 27, 2010
By yosemite sam i grew up with the la florentine version. i should have went with that product instead of 'settling' based on price. the nougat is not at all delicate. it is ultra chewy and bordering on hard. not at all soft as is la florentine. the wafer paper is also not delicate, rather it is thick and very noticeable.
i did not care for the taste of any. first i ate the orange flavored without looking at the box. it seemed to me to be heavy handed and, i thought, tasted of lemon. i checked the box to see if it were lemon, no. the lemon too was heavy handed. the vanila was borderline ok on not being overwhelming. all were to me, too sweet and too sticky. more like eating taffy than the sensual and delicate la florentine i grew up with.
i was disappointed as my wife had never had these before. it was a poor showing of what i had thought they should have been. i had to apologize to her after having raved about the tastes i had on my own. i rapidly canceled my subscription package.

It's not Christmas without it . . .Dec 14, 2011

We grew up with another brand and I decided to take the plunge with Ferrara and try it. Upon opening the top (which is a lift up flap) the blue colored boxes were all lined up. There are vanilla, orange and lemon flavors. I tried the vanilla. Opened the little box and inside was a sealed metallic bag which held the goody. It was a good size, for Torrone, and upon the first bite the rice paper wafer was fresh, the nougat was sweet but not sickeningly and the almonds were toasted and crisp. Then the childhood memories flooded in - I'm sitting at the long, dining table with the credenza behind me and I'm facing the front window looking out at a winter day. The women in the kitchen doing dishes and cleaning up after a huge meal, the Italian chatter ebbs and flows, the men watching the Christmas sports in the other room, and me sneaking the first tastes of Torrone enjoying bite after bite of the delicate goodness. Memories in a box and this brand didn't fail.

I enjoy this candy so much. My grandmother who was born in Ceafalu, Sicily used to eat this when I was a little girl. It is really delicious, it is not real sweet but has a great flavor!

By Ralph Very hard to find this candy down south. My husband decided to buy a case! We love this candy. Very satisfying for just a small piece. Only 45 calories each too! If you're a nougat and almond fan, I highly recommend this one!
